Goldstone Primary School

Goldstone Primary School: Nutrition Inspiration Talks

Goldstone Primary School is a large, co-ed school in Hove, with a pre-school (Little Owls) up to Year 6.

Children, especially of primary school age (3-11 years old), have developing immune systems, acquire viruses and infections more easily, and due to their close contact with each other and adults, transmit them more readily - in fact, children have on average 5-8 colds per year.

Identifying that the start of a school year is often one beset with illness for both children and families, and can result in increased school absences, Optimal Nutrition worked with the senior leadership team to host a “Nutrition Inspiration” talk for parents, focussing on immune boosting foods, what nutrients support illness, and importantly, meal ideas and time-saving recipes that incorporated those foods into meals that the whole family could eat.

Feedback from parents and staff alike was overwhelmingly positive, and attendees benefitted from free supplement samples, and a 12-page Immune-boosting recipe ebook with family-friendly meals. The talk was repeated 2 years later, to enable new intake parents to join.

Kathrin Leaver Fielding, through her practice Optimal Nutrition, has delivered beginner nutrition workshops for the staff, parents and carers within our primary school community. These sessions were informative and thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of families navigating everyday nutrition choices.

Kathrin has a clear and engaging delivery style, combining expert knowledge with practical, real-world advice. Her ability to communicate complex nutritional concepts in a friendly, non-judgemental manner made the workshops accessible and genuinely enjoyable.

Participants responded positively to her warm, supportive tone and appreciated her openness to questions and discussion.

Her sessions have not only increased nutritional awareness among our families but also empowered them with realistic tools to make healthier choices.

We would be delighted to welcome her back in the future.
